Internet Returns Policy

This rant doesn’t really belong in this category but it’s the best fit I have.

Today I’ve returned a set of speakers to Komplett because they didn’t work. I’ve also received a Pink Floyd CD from Amazon that has a damaged track that won’t play. Returning the speakers cost 25% of the purchase price and returning the CD will cost around 50%. I’ve also already paid Post & Packaging on both items. In summary, receiving defective goods costs me a lot of money, time and effort. Why am I paying for the failings of suppliers? Okay so Komplett didn’t make the speakers and Amazon didn’t make the CD, but they still took my money and didn’t supply working goods.

When something defective is delivered, I want to notify the supplier and then expect them to arrange for collection (at their expense) of the goods. In return I will re-package the defective goods (at no charge) and suffer the delay in receipt of functional items. This seems more than reasonable when they have already charged me for the original delivery.

Am I expecting too much of my suppliers, or is it simply that nobody ever votes with their feet and so they continue to treat their after-sales customers like dirt? Do statutory rights protect me against this sort of treatment? Probably, but again it’s a lot of time and effort for recovery of relatively small sums of money.

As a closing point – I’m refraining from even getting into how annoying it is to receive off-topic automated responses to my emails. Yes Komplett, I’m talking about you!
