It’s a beautiful Easter Sunday and what exactly am I supposed to do with it? Due to our draconian laws, not a single store is allowed to open today. In fact it’s the only day for the entire year when the law prevents large shops from opening at all. I fancied an early morning trip to the garden centre for breakfast followed by shopping for some new plants and then spending the afternoon in the garden planting them.
In this day of multiple religions and cultures, why is Easter forced on people in this way? The percentage who actually celebrate Easter as a religious event must be pretty small in comparison with the number who would like to buy something on their Sunday. One thing is sure, the shops would like to be open and their staff would like the subsequent double time. So the shops would like it, their staff would like it and we the public would like it. Why then are we denied it by our own government?
